Living out of a suitcase

With spring taking over, all my winter clothes are now safely stored away in vintage suitcases.

It seems that I'm not the only one intrigued by using suitcases as storage, designer Maarten De Ceulaer based his design of the modular wardrobe Valises on the bygone elegance of leather suitcases.

The modules fit together like a puzzle, each assigned for storing a different type of garment.

Apparently you can even store your boyfriend in there...

Purrfect

Who said modernist architecture should be the privilege of us humans? Designer Leo Kempf made his cat a designer house complete with scratching porch, plexiglass window, sheepskin carpeting and even little paintings!

Now hopefully kitty doesn't prefer a cardboard box to this little modernist palace...

Pillow talk

Talk about coincidences, two of my favourite female illustrators have some amazing pillow designs out.

The talented Sanna Annukka has collaborated with Marimekko for a product range inspired by Finnish folklore.

And Catalina Estrada has some colourful limited edition art pillows for sale over here.

There's art in everything

Most artist use pencils and crayons as a tool to make art but there are always exceptions...

Australian illustrator Ghostpatrol uses his pencils as a canvas to draw on.

And Pete Goldlust turns crayons into little magnificent sculptures.

These are so wonderfully delicate...

Award time

I feel very blessed to have received the following awards:

The wonderful Luphia from Luphia loves has given me the PROXIMITY award and the Honest Award.

For the Honest Award I have to give 10 honest things about myself, so here we go:
  1. I used to wear braces and i still have them on the backside of my teeth
  2. When I was 12 I asked my sister to 'donate' all her pocket money to me so I could buy a horse. My mum made me give it back.
  3. I can get really cranky during the morning commute. As in, I want to push people who cut in front of me under the metro. Mmm, I might be having some anger issues...
  4. I'm afraid of heights
  5. And spiders and basicaly everything creepy crawly...
  6. I'm a knitter and therefor yarn excites me
  7. So do vintage coloured knitting needles
  8. I make an absolutely devine chocolate cake
  9. I hate washing up
  10. When I was a kid I wanted to be a veteranian... untill our cat bit our vet

And Nat from Le Petit Oiseau was so kind to award me the Kreativ Blogger Award.

And for that one I have to tell you 7 things I love:
  1. Puppies. Actually fluffy puppies with lots of fluffy nest hair.
  2. Reading on the train
  3. Chocolate, the really expensive ones
  4. Singing along to the soundtrack of Grease with my sister (been too long)
  5. Lying in bed next to my boyfriend (sleeping, you dirty minds)
  6. Watching reruns of 'Murder She Wrote' on Saturday afternoon while drinking a cup of cappucino

Yay or nay?

I bought this handmade necklace at my thrift store but now I've been second thoughts.

It's made out of buttons and metal thread and even tough I like the overall look, I'm wondering if it doesn't look a bit cheap... The buttons at the bottom also have a tendency to hang down and there are some threads sticking out ... but I think I'll be able to fix that.

What do you think? Should I keep it? Or just recycle the buttons for something else?

House Industries: Girard

House Industries is known for their fonts. But when they made a font collection based on the work of modernist designer Alexander Girard, they didn't stop there.

They took it to another level and made a whole product line including a memory game, dolls and even a nativity scene!

Mmm, do you think April is too soon to be buying Christmas decorations?

In season

As posted, this weekend I cleaned out my kitchen cupboards. After this I deserved a little treat, so I changed my wardrobe from winter to summer.

I only have a sad little clothes rack to hang my clothes on, it's the only wardrobe solution that fits beneath our attic apartments slanted walls. That's why I have to store my winter/summer clothes (depending on the time of year) somewhere else. Luckily I found some gorgeous suitcases to do the trick.

I love digging out my clothes when the seasons change, there are always some gorgeous pieces I almost forgot about...

Bright as a button

I love flowers... but I'm always a bit sad when they die. That's why I followed Nina's advice and purchased some Billy Buttons. Apparently this native Australian daisy lasts forever...

Plus, as an added bonus, they are some of the most graphical flowers I have ever seen!
