Best of Carrie Can
As you might or might not know from my previous post, I decided to put blogging on hold for a while. I need this time to rethink both the blog and my place inside the world wide web. I however realise how annoying the wait must be for you readers. That is why when I read yellowtrace's latest post I had an Eureka feeling. Just like me Dana is taking a little break, but instead of not posting she is doing a recap of her posts from this year. What a wonderful idea! So I decided to do a recap of some of mine and yours favourite posts of the last years of Carrie Can. I hope you'll enjoy...
And today to start of with, I choose one of my fav modern wisdoms.

What's going on
Hello my lovelies,
You might have noticed that blogging has been very slow, well basically non existent at the moment.
It's been an eventful past few months (see previous post) which lead to rethink my life a little. One of the things that came up was how blogging fitted in my life. I was even wondering if it should have a place at all anymore. But then I thought I liked it too much to give up, and if I liked it that much I should maybe take it up to the next level.
So that's why over the next few weeks I'm going to think this all true, how I can make this blog even better, definitely a redesign and maybe even trying my hand at a little web shop.
I apologize beforehand for the wait, I hope it will be worth it, both for you and me.

The good and the bad
I guessed you might have noticed I haven't blogged for the last two weeks. There are two reasons for this, a good one and a not so good one.
Let's start with the good one shall we? 10 years together and a few subtle remarks on my side, my boyfriend finally proposed! It's all very exciting and also hectic since I would love to have the wedding next year in April, on the day before my 30th birthday. To my frustration, finding a venue hasn't proved easy so far .
Unfortunately we also had some bad news, my grandmother is in hospital and it isn't looking good. She has cancer and we knew time was limited but it's all going very fast, very suddenly.
So my mind hasn't been into blogging lately and I apologize for that, but sometimes real life takes over...

Office blues
Just took a week of holidays, today is the last and I think the weather is making it easier for me to go back to work, it's literally pouring outside. Ah well, at least I can resume gossiping at the coffee machine tomorrow, it's not all that bad ;-)

That's the end of that
The end of a not so nice week, first I got the flu, then I threw out my back and to top it off I crushed my fingers in between the terrace doors. Can't wait to find out what the next week brings...

Bring on the alcohol
Looking back at my previous post I realized that summer has started and I haven't drank any cocktails so far. Must go out now and make amends.. well maybe once it stops raining...

Summer blues
It's been a bit of a fickle summer so far, not really bad, not really good neither. I'm still hoping for lots of sunshine this weekend because there is nothing I would rather do than relax on my terrace... Fingers crossed...

Goodbye
This weekend our family dog, the sweetest golden retriever you can imagine, passed away. However hard it was to say goodbye, I know it was the best thing for her. Her hind legs were starting to get paralyzed ( we never truly knew why) and when flies started to swarm her, we knew the end was near.
She was with us for almost fourteen years, so it really feels like losing a loved one. So this post is in honour of her. She will be dearly missed…

Sorry
I want to apologize for the lack of posting lately. My head really hasn't been into blogging, reason being that my family life has been a bit rocky. My grandmother is in hospital, my mum had an operation and is still recovering, and to top it off my other grandmother has fallen and broke her collarbone, forcing her to stay at an elderly home for the next few weeks. I tell you, you don't want to be part of my family right now, even the dog has been sick.
I promise all will be restored to normal quite soon. But for now I just don't have the energy to blog...

Something red
Okay, valentine's day, a day I have mixed feelings about, since I don't think one day is enough to show someone you love them and I'm not really into corny red hearts.
If I regard Valentine as a day to celebrate passion instead of a day on which couples desperately try to be romantic, I can almost live with it. But I still think I'll let this holiday quietly pass by... So sorry darling, no presents for you today, just my love, and that's yours every day of the year...

Let the voting begin
Time to use this blog for some family promotion! The architecture firm my sister works at, dmvA, has been nominated for the Archdaily Interior of the Year Award.
And as a big sis, I have to give massive support, not only by voting myself but by spreading the word.
So please, pretty please, vote for my sister, right here.
(Or the family dog will come to bite you. You have been warned...)

Bring on the turkey
Tonight I'm going over to my parents for Christmas dinner. I love it when the whole family gathers round the table and we can indulge ourselves with delicious food, great wine and sparkling conversations.

'tis the season
I don't know about you, but when it comes to Christmas decorations, I always have these brilliant ideas which are great and easy in my head but complicated and frustrated in reality.

This year I thought how wonderful it would be to integrate a bit of typography in my decorations so I decided to print out some words, stick them on cardboard, cut it out and with the help of some gold spray paint, add a bit of holiday spirit. But off course I had to choose a serif font which looked wonderful on the computer but was hell to cut out. Luckily in the end all turned out well as the following photo proofs.
I have to say that with the baubles I cheated, I wanted to make my own sequined baubles for a while, but when I spotted these ones at Habitat, I thought I'd save myself the trouble.

And then, as the French would say, the pièce the résistance.

I spotted bauble wreaths popping up at various blogs. I wondered how hard it could be – I mean it's just sticking balls to a wreath – so decided I might as well give it a try. I kind of underestimated how many baubles exactly go into a bauble wreath. For all you decoration virgins, I think there are about 150 in mine. That amount means a lot of glueing, and even more annoying, a lot of watching glue dry. But I think the result is pretty stunning. Because I like it so much I'm actually too afraid to hang it up like I was planning to, so I think I just leave it lying on the coffee table. Nice and safe, just the way I like it...

So what about you? Have you been busy crafty for the holidays?
PS: I know, no Christmas tree. I might still put one up, but the Christmas cards have priority now...

It's that time of year again...
I've been very busy, the last few days making a Christmas wreath. It involves a lot of glueing and watching glue dry, so process is slow but as soon as it's finished, I'll let you guys have a peek.
But to give you a bit of an idea what it looks like, these are the lovely wreaths I used for inspiration.
