Best of: The office: Skype

I decided to take some time rethinking both the blog and my place inside the world wide web. To make the wait more bearable, a selection of mine and yours favourite posts of the last years of Carrie Can, will be reposted. I hope you'll enjoy...

Working during the summer holidays always seems a bit harder. But it must be a consolation if you're able to work in a trendy designed workplace such as the Skype offices in Stockholm.

Monday mornings aren't fun. After two days of sleeping in, the alarm clock going of at 6am sounds like something out of Dante's inferno. You drag yourself out of bed and, after several cups of coffee, squeeze yourself more or less awake on an overfilled metro for the morning commute.

Unfortunately there is now way to make Monday mornings feel like Friday evenings, but wouldn't they be a bit more bearable if your office would be this beautiful designed work space instead of just gray and boring?

Some people are so lucky. That's why I decided to do some posts about inspirational offices. Please be free to forward them to your boss...

First up: Facebook.

If you run a hip social networking site you need a hip office to match. And I think the employees over at the California headquarters can't complain.

As a graphic designer I have a healthy typography addiction. And type can be a great addition to your interior too.

Here's the proof.

Best of: Tiny apartments

I decided to take some time rethinking both the blog and my place inside the world wide web. To make the wait more bearable, a selection of mine and yours favourite posts of the last years of Carrie Can, will be reposted. I hope you'll enjoy...

Maybe you know the feeling: you're walking around your local IKEA, admiring the styling of the display ‘apartments’. At the same time a thought crosses your mind : nobody actually lives in tiny 20m square apartments ! (Well apart from maybe students and leprechauns.)

And then I came across the apartment of NJ in New York. It might be a bit bigger than your average IKEA store display, but it’s still quite tiny to harbour a family of 3.

Thanks to some clever tricks (the stair that doubles as book shelves, the fold out desk…) the space feels much bigger than it is.

So forget about spacious lofts, tiny apartments really are the thing for the future!
Now for a cunning plan to fit all my junk on 20 square meter...

Sometimes it can be so easy to add some colour and freshness to your home. One of the simplest way is just to add some flowers!

Tadaa, an instant glamour addition...

Best of Carrie Can

As you might or might not know from my previous post, I decided to put blogging on hold for a while. I need this time to rethink both the blog and my place inside the world wide web. I however realise how annoying the wait must be for you readers. That is why when I read yellowtrace's latest post I had an Eureka feeling. Just like me Dana is taking a little break, but instead of not posting she is doing a recap of her posts from this year. What a wonderful idea! So I decided to do a recap of some of mine and yours favourite posts of the last years of Carrie Can. I hope you'll enjoy...

And today to start of with, I choose one of my fav modern wisdoms.

What's going on

Hello my lovelies,

You might have noticed that blogging has been very slow, well basically non existent at the moment.

It's been an eventful past few months (see previous post) which lead to rethink my life a little. One of the things that came up was how blogging fitted in my life. I was even wondering if it should have a place at all anymore. But then I thought I liked it too much to give up, and if I liked it that much I should maybe take it up to the next level.

So that's why over the next few weeks I'm going to think this all true, how I can make this blog even better, definitely a redesign and maybe even trying my hand at a little web shop.

I apologize beforehand for the wait, I hope it will be worth it, both for you and me.

The good and the bad

I guessed you might have noticed I haven't blogged for the last two weeks. There are two reasons for this, a good one and a not so good one.

Let's start with the good one shall we? 10 years together and a few subtle remarks on my side, my boyfriend finally proposed! It's all very exciting and also hectic since I would love to have the wedding next year in April, on the day before my 30th birthday. To my frustration, finding a venue hasn't proved easy so far .

Unfortunately we also had some bad news, my grandmother is in hospital and it isn't looking good. She has cancer and we knew time was limited but it's all going very fast, very suddenly.

So my mind hasn't been into blogging lately and I apologize for that, but sometimes real life takes over...

Office blues

Just took a week of holidays, today is the last and I think the weather is making it easier for me to go back to work, it's literally pouring outside. Ah well, at least I can resume gossiping at the coffee machine tomorrow, it's not all that bad ;-)

Art on display

Whenever I go thrifting I keep my eye open for some affordable art. Unfortunately, all the paintings I come across are just well really awful (and not in a good kitsch kind of way). The following people seem to have been more lucky...
