Design hotel: Tree Hotel

I love the concept of the Tree Hotel where all rooms are located, well as you might have guessed, up trees. It just brings me right back to my childhood, making camps and hiding for my parents for the full 5 minutes and then sneaking into the house to grab a cookie because I got hungry . Yes, I realize I wrote camp instead of, what you would expect, tree hut, but that's because I'm afraid of heights and I wouldn't for the live of me want to scramble into an unsafe dwelling made out of nothing then a few planks and some chord.

I would however – getting back to the topic of this post – not mind at all staying at the Tree Hotel (looks all pretty sturdy and safe to me) and I have even picked out my room.

Because let's admit, isn't the Mirrorcube one of the most fab things you've seen. I doesn't even look like it's there at all. Like something right out of Harry Potter. This great exterior combined with the mimimalistic Scandinavian interior is just to die for.

Design hotel: Mandarin Oriental Hotel

Barcelona has been on my cities to visit list for quite some time now. And after seeing these photographs of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, I have another reason to visit. The interior was designed by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola. And once again she manages to make my jaw drop. I mean that atrium entrance feels like you're entering a new world, ideally for leaving all stress and worries behind. I better start saving up for a suite...

Design hotel: Hotel de Sers

After seeing these photographs I just want to whisk my boyfriend off for a romantic weekend in Paris. How emancipated is that!

Design Hotel: The Grand Daddy

The Grand Daddy hotel in South Africa has some great rooms and suites but I am more charmed with their roof. I can see some raised highbrows over this, but the top of this hotel is quite exceptional.

It is the home of seven iconic Airstream trailers. Don't think trailer trash but beautiful designed caravans with all luxuries provided and a complementary view of Table Mountain.

Design hotel: Apartment K

Apartment K in Reykjavic, Iceland, is in fact – as the name gives away – not an hotel but a full serviced apartment.

A perfect solution if you want to add a touch of design to your trip but don't want to pay boutique hotel prices.

Design Hotel: Juvet

If you want to become one with nature, you have to stay at the Juvet hotel in Norway.

The hotel is quite literally hanging from the edge of a cliff and therefore offers the most astonishing views. Thanks to the big windows, it almost feels like you're camping outside. Without irritating insects crawling into your sleeping bag...

Design Hotel: Aire de Bardenas

Since it's holiday season, I decided to share some of my favourite design hotels with you.

First up is Aire de Bardenas in Spain. This hotel is very suitable for a relaxing getaway. The abstract desertlike landscape is reflected in the minimalistic prefab building and interior design. An ideal place to forget all worries here and become one with yourself...
