City Impressions: New York

New York, where to start... This is truly a city where around every corner there is something new to discover.

I won't ramble on about all the touristy sightseeing we did (Including such obvious things as the Statue of Liberty and Central Park). Instead I'll let you in on some of the wonderful shops I came across (Unfortunately since I was traveling with the boyfriend, shopping time was limited).

Here are some lovely places I can recommend:

Fish Eddy:
Top place to buy your porcelain glove molds (yes indeed you've read that right, glove molds) and also stocks some great alternative New York souvenirs.

My so called life

GAP:
I guess for all your Americans not such a noteworthy tip but for me it was a nice change to H&M.

Purl Soho:
Unfortunately closed when I strolled by, but from the window I saw some lovely funky yarns.

Destiknitions

MoMa Store:
This museum shop stores some great design gadgets and tidbits.

Jonathan Adler:
Still regretting I didn't buy anything here, but I don't think the Giraffe lamp would have fit into my luggage. Should have tried tough...

Copenhagen impressions: Hotels

When I go on city trips I normally don't stay in expensive hotels. In cities, there is just so much to see and do that you never seem to get back to your hotel early and if you do, it's probably because you're exhausted and want to sleep. So I don't bother paying more for a room, I'll hardly spent any time in. If it's clean and in walking distance of the center, then it will do.

So I was rather surprised to see how well designed our two star hotel in Copenhagen was. Okay, the rooms were small, but the layout was very well layed out and the hotel lobby was even filled with design classics. How very Scandinavian...

This is the hotel we stayed in: Wake Up Copenhagen

And here are some hotels I wouldn't have mind staying in, if I had a bit of a bigger budget:

Copenhagen impressions: Street style

Copenhagen was my first travel experience into Scandinavia, and it must be said, the average rate of beautiful people was much higher than in my beloved home country. Not always so good for one's self confidence.

But people don't only look prettier, they also look a lot stylisher. And it's not only women, Danish men are also more aware of their look (no complains there).

So here are a few street style trends I saw:

• Clothes: Nautical

The Sartorialist

• Hairstyle: buns

The Beauty files

Eperience Parisienne

Erin ever after

• Shoes: Gladiator sandals

I have to admit, I'm going to give the messy bun a try. And I wouldn't mind a striped t-shirt or two. I am however going to pass on the sandals. Sorry, just not my thing...

Copenhagen impressions: bikes

Finally as promised I'll tell you about my trip to Copenhagen. And let me just say that I fell in love with the city. I loved the atmosphere, the people, the mentality... this is really a city I could see myself living in. So that's why I decided to do not just one post but a little series.

(Unfortunately my boyfriend's Leica broke down on day one, so off course my camera was confiscated. So unless you want to see 200 photographs of me standing in front of almost every building in Copenhagen, I'll illustrate my impressions on the hand of other people's photographs.)

Impression n°1: Copenhagen is by far the most bike friendly capital I've seen so far. Bikes are the main way of transport and everywhere you have bike lanes. So refreshing!

Cycle chic

And you have to have a cool bike to ride trough all the hip streets. Here is a list of my favourite bikes.
