Etsy Favs: Inaluxe

Recently I was going through my favourite sellers list on Etsy, thinking what great talent this site harbors. And at the same time I thought that it wasn't fair to keep this wonderful list all to myself. That's why, in this new series, I'll introduce you to some of my favourite Etsy sellers.

First up: Inaluxe.

When I first added this seller, it was for her lovely dresses, great was my surprise when her shop was all of a sudden stocked with gorgeous art. A woman of many talents...

Check out her Etsy shop!

Spring scrub

Spring is here, so it's time for some traditional spring cleaning. I'll be tackling my kitchen cupboards this weekend and I should really start decluttering the mess I call my workroom.

To give me – and you – some inspiration here is some organizing eye candy.

I heart: Crochet chair

I have to admit, when I saw this Crochet chair by Marcel Wanders, I drooled a little.

It's just so delicate and intricate at the same time. Since there are only 20 produced, you can truly call this a work of art...

A pattern a day...

Life is always better with some nice illustrations. Finnish collective Pattern Bakery share my opinion, and boy, oh boy, do they design some great illustrations!

Be sure to check out their Etsy shop.

It's here!

Spring is finally here!

Whenever the first rays of sun break through after days and days of grey winter clouds, I feel like a new person.

A wooden delight

I always love when architecture and sculpture merge together.

For instance in this pavillion Sclera by architect David Adjaye.

I really like how he plays with the material — american tulipwood — and creates an interesting shadow pattern by using different lengths.

Add some spice with Rice

I came across homeware company Rise recently and I totally fell for their core values: colour, fun and function.

Rice was founded 10 years ago by Charlotte and her husband, after they decided to move from Paris to Denmark. They started selling things with help from their schoolfriend Hans who lives in Thailand.

Their products are designed and developed in Denmark, and are produced in the third world with respect for people. (No child labour and the workers employed are treated properly).

Their products are just the perfect feel good buy.

Buy the Past

Last weekend I went to a 'Buy the Past' day organised by our local thrift stores. Basically what it means is that all thrift stores assemble their most retro objects and sell them together on one day in one location.

There are a few pros and cons to be said for this. Positive first, it's a great way for the stores to promote what they do. Plus it also gives them a trendier image. And you are sure to find some great objects. Which in a weird way almost feels like a negative, it kind of takes away the thrill of the hunt...

Altough... all that loveliness can only be yours if you come on time. Cause this event always attracts a big crowd, a lot more people than in your average thrift store. This is the third edition I've went to and every year it gets crowdier and crowdier.

But don't let all this negative talk fool you, because off course I was able to score some great bargain hunts.

So let me show you my treasures:

First up, some lovely dinnerware plates called June by Norwegian Stavangerflint. I loved the illustrations and colours on this one. I paid 1.5€ for these.

Then there's a desk lamp by Anglepoise. I wasn't so lucky to grab an original 1227, but for 5€ I think this is still a great find.

Next up is a West German bowl for 1€. This does miss a few chips but I just loved it so much that I bought it anyway.

But my buy of the day was this magazine rack by Kartell. I was a big fan of this design by Giotto Stoppino so I was absolutely delighted to pick up a vintage one for 20€!

Design Classics: The Egg Chair

It's been a while, I know, but don't worry I haven't forgot about my Design Classics series. And to make it up to you, here's a super long one with lots of eye candy.

Our subject today: The Egg chair

Shootfactory

Tommaso Ziffer

The Egg chair – which celebrated his 50th anniversary last year– was designed by Denmark's most renowned architect, slash designer, Arne Jacobsen. After building the Radisson SAS Hotel in Copenhagen, Jacobsen designed the egg chair to become part of the interior.

Half a century later, there's still one room in the hotel, Room 606, that features the original Arne Jacobsen interior. Think of it as the Lourdes for every true design devotee...

'Room 606' through Flickr

The organically shaped chair also ensured privacy in the hotel lobby. I must admit, I tried the chair out myself – unfortunately not in Copenhagen – and it really feels like your sitting in your own little cocoon.

Peter Rüssmann

Catherine Huckerby

The chair was originally only available in leather. But due to the organic shape, stitching the leather needs to be done by hand. A very time consuming and therefor expensive process. That's why producer Fritz Hanzen decided to do a fabric version which is about half the price of the original leather one. Unfortunately that still means a 3.000€ price tag. Ah, a girl can dream, can't she...

Fashion and the city

Love these Cityscape coat hangers! I found them through Sixixis, but unfortunately they are closed for business, so I'm not sure if these are still being sold...

House in the middle of the street

They boyfriend and I recently placed a bid on, maybe not our dream house, but a fierce runner up. Unfortunately we were outbid, so our search continues...

The most disappointing thing I find is not so much realizing what dreadful houses we can buy with our budget, but the lovely houses we can't buy. Take a look for instance at this house which is for sale in the same street we now live.

Okay it still needs some work but even now it already has so much potential! Unfortunately it's 100.000 € over our budget. Ouch!

In case you are interested it is for sale here

Mural on the wall...

If you liked the photo wall murals from my previous post, you're going to love Surface View. They have a huge collection of images varying from art from the national gallery to Marvel comics. And besides bespoke murals you can also get the images printed on canvases and blinds.

I'm a big fan of the 'land of lost content' collection by Wayne Hemingway and Stella Mitchell. They have brought together an overview of British retro and kitsch images. Just my cup of tea...
